Now that Sober October and Dry January are behind us, it's time to get back to the pub and support your local brewers".

Brewers and pubs are going through a hard couple of years and those who are still in business could use a boost.

What can you do to help?

May is 'Mild Month', and a chance to go to your local and try some of the best examples of this traditional style.

Help your local - get yourself to your local and have a beer, coffee, soft drink or a meal. This time of year, pubs are a warm and welcoming place to meet up with friends for a chat.

Support your local brewers - Try ordering something direct from a local brewer or one you've not tried before.

If you're going to the pub, buy a bottle or two to take home when you leave. This is better for both brewers and pubs (and supermarkets have been doing well recently and don't need the extra trade).

Most pubs are involved in fundraising in their own community and the reduction in their trade also hit their charitable efforts.

So while you're in the pub think about popping your change into the collecting box on the bar.

Beer festivals usually raise money for charity too, so go along to a beer festival and put a few quid in the charity pot while you enjoy a couple of pints.

During the early part of the pandemic, pubs were required to install protective shields, social distancing measures and hand sanitising points for the protection of their customers, but were then closed again almost immediately.

The media have been telling us that alcohol consumption has gone up during the lockdowns. This is not true and in most cases, it has fallen

Unfortunately for pubs, this was mostly bought from supermarkets while the pubs were forced to close.

If pubs close, they are a loss to the community so we should do whatever we can to save them.
